Diabetes - D-3 Hydroxybutyrate (Ranbut)
The Randox D-3 Hydroxybutyrate (Ranbut) assay is used for the quantitative in vitro determination of D-3 Hydroxybutyrate in serum or plasma. Randox test for D-3 Hydroxybutyrate as opposed to acetone or acetoacetate because D-3 hydroxybutyrate is a more sensitive biomarker of ketosis as the D-3 Hydroxybutyrate levels are more elevated compared to acetone and acetoacetate. D-3 Hydroxybutyrate is also the most stable ketone body (7 days at +4⁰C) – Acetone and acetoacetate are unstable, and so serious errors can arise if analysis is delayed. The Randox D-3 Hydroxybutyrate (Ranbut) assay can be used for the detection of ketosis is important in several conditions:
- Diabetic ketosis
- Alcoholic ketosis
- Severe injury, illness or sepsis
- Dieting
- Childhood epilepsy
- Ketotic hypoglycaemia
